Robin Van Persie: Manchester United Best Fit for Dutch Striker in Transfer 26-07-2012

Let's get one thing clear—the last thing I want to see is Robin van Persie go to eitherManchester United or Manchester City. As an Arsenal fan, I'd prefer the team transferred him to the moon if he can't be convinced to say (or at least Juventus).
But if I were his adviser and tasked with guiding him to the best fit for his talents and trophy-winning aspirations, I would have to send him to Manchester United. And Danny Mills and Gary Pallister agree.
But Pallister thinks Van Persie, 28, might suffer from City's squad rotation, while Mills says United are better placed to challenge in Europe.
"Strikers get frustrated at City and I don't think Van Persie would be rotated as much at United," said Pallister.
"Van Persie has proven he is top quality and I don't think he would have any problem establishing a lethal partnership with Wayne Rooney.
"So if it's for footballing reasons, then I think Manchester United would be the ideal place for him."
It's hard to disagree with that assessment. Even Manchester City fans have to admit a pairing with Rooney would be nasty.
Try to imagine for a moment Van Persie in a Red Devils' kit, slotted at the striker position with Rooney sliding in behind him at center-forward. How horrifying would that combination be? How many goals would they account for?

I'm having waking nightmares of Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia swinging in crosses from the wing to Van Persie, who volleys them home with one of his clinical strikes, or he and Rooney standing on either side of the ball before one of them dips a free kick over the wall and past the outstretched arms of a goalie who never stood a chance.
Terrifying, I know.
Manchester City has its share of playmakers and dangerous attackers, so Van Persie could do worse than join the other Manchester side. At Juventus, he would be the clear focal point of the attack.

Which team is the best fit for Van Persie?

But I simply think at Manchester United he would do the most damage. Because Rooney plays as a center-forward and likes to facilitate offense as much as he likes to finish opportunities, I think pairing the two deadliest goal scorers in the Premier League would work just fine.
At the end of the day, I want Robin van Persie to have a change of heart and return to Arsenal. Or go somewhere far, far away.
But if neither is possible, I must begrudgingly admit that the Red Devils make the most sense. And pray he isn't transferred to Old Trafford.
