2012 Fantasy Football Week 7 Last-Minute Popular Pickups: Fan’s Review

Due to last-minute injury updates and other late player news, fantasy owners sometimes need to add a player right before the start of games on Sunday. Here are the most-added players by position in fantasy football leagues on the Saturday before Sunday's Week 7 games.
Add numbers used for this list are from all Yahoo! fantasy football leagues for Saturday, October 20. Players on the San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks who have already played their Week 7 game are not included.
Quarterback
Josh Freeman, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 6,928 adds
For owners seeking a last-minute starting fantasy quarterback in place of Matt Ryan, Peyton Manning or Michael Vick, Freeman was a popular choice given his great matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Facing a very beatable defense, owners utilizing Freeman hope he has a repeat performance similar to what he put up against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.
Honorable mentions: Buffalo Bills' Ryan Fitzpatrick (6,165 adds), Minnesota Vikings' Christian Ponder (5,069 adds), Cincinnati Bengals' Andy Dalton (4,937 adds)
Running back
Jonathan Dwyer, Pittsburgh Steelers - 34,637 adds
Initially a running back with little interest on the waiver wire, interest for Dwyer grew once it was announced that both Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman would miss this week's game against the Bengals. While this matchup will be tough and may be more for owners who are desperate for a running back guaranteed to get carries this week, Dwyer can serve a purpose for owners needing an okay flex option. Baron Batch and Chris Rainey will serve as the backups to Dwyer and are speculative adds in deeper leagues.
Honorable mentions: New York Giants' Andre Brown (18,972 adds), New England Patriots' Danny Woodhead (15,606 adds), Dallas Cowboys' Felix Jones (10,696 adds)
Wide receiver
Andre Roberts, Arizona Cardinals - 10,470 adds
Despite a disappointing outing against a beatable Bills defense in Week 6 where he only had two catches for 18 yards, Roberts was targeted by owners this week. One positive trend about the Vikings defense is that it has allowed solid performances to non-No. 1 receivers like Cecil Shorts, Mario Manningham, and Kendall Wright.
Honorable mentions: Cleveland Browns' Josh Gordon (10,199 adds), Miami Dolphins' Brian Hartline (9,707 adds), Washington Redskins' Santana Moss (9,210 adds)
Tight end
Scott Chandler, Buffalo Bills - 19,562 adds
The Tennessee Titans have struggled immensely at defending tight ends. Chandler, Buffalo's top red zone target, could go off in this game and definitely has the matchup for a great showing. With an excellent chance for production, many owners added him in hopes of a great fantasy performance.
Honorable mentions: Tennessee Titans' Jared Cook (13,729 adds), Minnesota Vikings' Kyle Rudolph (11,183 adds), Cincinnati Bengals' Jermaine Gresham (10,116 adds)
Kicker
Robbie Gould, Chicago Bears - 9,442 adds
For owners seeking a last-minute kicker replacement for Matt Bryant or Matt Prater, Gould was a readily-available option with a great matchup in Week 7 against the Detroit Lions. Perfect on the season and a reliable play, he was a great choice for owners needing a bye-week replacement.
Honorable mentions: Minnesota Vikings' Blair Walsh (8,442 adds), Cleveland Browns' Phil Dawson (8,114 adds), New York Giants' Lawrence Tynes (7,112 adds)
Team defense
Minnesota Vikings team defense - 13,560 adds
Despite coming off their worst game of the season against the Redskins, the Vikings team defense could be a nice option this week. Up against an easier offense in the Cardinals, the Vikings could easily rack up a nice number of sacks and limit Arizona to few points, making them a nice option in Week 7.
Honorable mentions: New England Patriots team defense (9,097 adds), Arizona Cardinals team defense (7,576 adds), Buffalo Bills team defense (6,899 adds)
