On a club level, matches don't get much bigger than Real Madrid vs. FC Barcelona. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are arguably the two greatest players in the world today, and Sunday they will lead their clubs into a contest on which the entire football world will be focused.
On the eve of the match, I've consulted with FIFA 13 to see which club the EA Sports video game picks as the winner.
More and more, the sports video-game world is in tune with the real life happenings of the sports they emulate. This is certainly the case with FIFA 13 and world football.
The presentation does an excellent job capturing the importance of the match. It uses a feature called Games of the Week. You can play or simulate the most compelling matches of the week under the EAS FC Match Day heading in the menu.
The game provides insights into the match, information about suspended and injured players, etc. It even takes into account the current weather forecast in the location where the match is set to be played.
It is an awesome way to link the video game with real-life world football.
It is great to see such an important match captured in this mode. There is a ton at stake here, and it goes beyond national bragging rights. Madrid is already 11 points behindBarca in the La Liga standings. No team has ever come back from that large of a deficit to win a championship.
Ronaldo and company need this match more than Messi's side, but Barca will not give in. Madrid still poses a legitimate threat in La Liga; if Barca wins they all but eliminate Madrid from contention, so expect Barca to play with a sense of urgency.
Madrid should be healthy and extremely motivated heading into the match, but it will take a spirited effort to knock off their rivals.
