Coming back from a two goal deficit to take three points in a Champions League match can do wonders for the confidence of a football squad. According to ManUtd.com, Chicharito Hernandez isfull of confidence after his two goals in a 3-2 win over Brago, and having a little bit of extra confidence never hurts heading into a weekend that features a Premier League match with Chelsea.
Of course, there are actually two trips to Stamford Bridge coming the first being the Premier League tie on October 28 and the second being a Capital One Cup tie on October 31. While United boss Sir Alex Ferguson will likely make sure both sides look pretty different, Red Devil fans can almost surely bet that there will a fair amount of fireworks in both matches.
I think when the big clubs meet all too often the match results in some uninspired play, not because of lack of execution, but because both teams are pretty well matched. After the come from behind win against Braga, I think Manchester United will be eager to carry on the performance and try to take an early lead against Chelsea. That is if the team can avoid surrendering an early goal--again.
Chelsea are playing well, and at Stamford Bridge they will be able to dictate the pace of the match, or at least try to. Sir Alex rested Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra against Braga, which means the United backline should look a little more familiar. Up front, Chicharito has a good history against Chelsea, which means I would think he will see some time with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. Depending on what kind of look Sir Alex wants to run, I imagine Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs will be selected as well.
The bottom line is that both clubs are playing well, but the United attack seems to be moving in a different world. The Red Devils boast a lot of fire power, and I expect the squad to come out like they were shot out of a cannon. If Chelsea can weather the storm, and possibly attack on transition, United can find themselves in trouble. However, if Manchester United gets a lead, the squad will only get hungrier for more goals. In short, the Champions League comeback should inspire United. Chelsea matches are always interesting, and this coming week will give United fans two chances to see the red team match up with the blue team.
