Chelsea FC defender Ashley Cole ready for Real Madrid CF, PSG talks - report

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is reportedly ready to quit the club at the end of the season.

Cole is out of contract next summer and reports in recent weeks have suggested that the left-back could be ready to leave on a free transfer after only being offered a one-year extension.

And according to the Daily Mail, the 31-year-old is insisting he will not sign the short-term contract offered to him and is preparing to speak with foreign clubs in January.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have both shown interest in Cole for some time, while recent reports have suggested AC Milan could also consider snapping him up on a free transfer.

According to Monday's report, talks with PSG and Madrid could take place in the New Year.

There has also been interest from the Premier League, with Manchester rivals City and United both previously linked with the England international. Despite his age, it is understood both would be interested in luring him away from west London should no transfer fee be involved.

Chelsea are sticking to their policy of refusing to offer long-term deals to players over the age of thirty, which also leaves doubts over the future of midfielder Frank Lampard, who could also be on the move next summer.

Although Cole has impressed on the pitch, he has dominated headlines for the wrong reasons as a result of his actions off the pitch.

The former Arsenal defender was last week charged with misconduct by the Football Association over his recent Twitter outburst when he referred to English football's governing body as a "bunch of t****" in response to the independent regulatory commission's judgement on his evidence in the John Terry racial abuse case.
