Real Madrid are reportedly considering a January move for Chelsea defender Ashley Cole.
Cole is out of contract at the end of the season and reports in recent weeks have suggested that the left-back could be ready to leave on a free transfer next summer after only being offered a one-year extension.
Chelsea are sticking to their policy of refusing to offer long-term deals to players over the age of thirty, which also leaves doubts over the future of midfielder Frank Lampard, who could also be on the move next summer.
Cole, 31, who is understood to be wanting a minimum two-year contract, has been linked with Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain for some time, while reports this past week have suggested AC Milan could also consider snapping him up on a free transfer.
But according to The People, Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is weighing up a January swoop for Cole after seeing Marcelo sidelined through injury.
Mourinho's first-choice left-back is facing up to three months on the sidelines and Los Blancos are also currently without Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Arbeloa at full-back.
According to Sunday's report, Chelsea could be tempted to cash in on Cole rather than lose him for nothing next summer, although it is understood the player would prefer to seek one last big pay-day when his contract expires.
