Now it is clear why Tyree Clark moved up at cornerback on the UConn depth chart as Paul Pasqualoni said on Monday's American Athletic Conference call that David Stevenson has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.
Stevenson recorded a pair of assisted tackles in the season-opening loss to Towson.
Stevenson's absence could open up some playing time for some of UConn's younger corners when the Huskies go to their five and six defensive back packages. Jhavon Williams figures to see the biggest jump in playing time as he will likely be the one utilized when UConn uses five defensive backs. True freshman Javon Hadley drew a lot of praise for his work during preseason camp but throwing him in there against the Maryland and Michigan game-breaking receiving corps would truly be a baptism by fire. Reserve safety Ellis Marder came to UConn as a cornerback so he could be an option as well.
Also, although Tim Boyle and Casey Cochran are listed as co-No. 2s at quarterback, Boyle has been seeing most of the time with the second-team offense.
"That is a sign that he is making progress and he is working hard getting himself ready should be put him in the game," Pasqualoni said. "Timmy is actually taking the second-team reps right now and Casey is getting reps as well. Timmy is taking the first second-team reps and Casey is getting the reps after that."
Pasqualoni also said that senior offensive tackle Kevin Friend, who missed the season opener with a concussion, is back at practice.
"He’s back and he is ready to go which will be a big help to us, we have some experience now in there at right tackle," Pasqualoni said.
Also, it was announced that the UConn/Michigan kickoff time won't be announced until after Saturday's games. According to @ESPN_BigTen the game is expected to be played either at noon or 8 and will be shown on either ABC or ESPN. My guess would be a noon kickoff.
