Soccer - Sherwood unsure about future

Caretaker manager Tim Sherwood hopes he will be given the chance to manage Tottenham on a permanent basis. However, the 44-year-old admits that he does not even know whether he will still be in charge for this weekend's game against Southampton, which Spurs are 14/1 with bet365 to win 2-0. Sherwood, 4/1 to be Spurs' next permanent manager, presided over Wednesday's Capital One Cup last-eight defeat to West Ham following the club's decision to part company with Andre Villas-Boas. "The immediate future is up in the air, that's as much as I know," Sherwood said. "I'm up for a challenge. I always have been. I'm very opinionated. "I've got to be in the frame, but it's not my decision, unfortunately."

Soccer - Moyes hopeful on Rooney injury

Manchester United boss David Moyes believes Wayne Rooney has a chance of being fit enough to return to action against West Ham United on Saturday. The 28-year-old former Everton striker missed the 2-0 Capital One Cup victory at Stoke City on Wednesday with a groin injury but, when asked if Rooney would be able to play against Sam Allardyce's relegation-threatened side, Moyes replied: "He has got a chance, yes." Manchester United, 22/1 with bet365 to win the Premier League title outright, are already without Robin van Persie until mid-January as the Netherlands international has a thigh strain. United, 6/4 to win the Capital One Cup outright, will play Sunderland over two legs in the semi-finals, while Manchester City have been drawn against West Ham, who knocked out Spurs in the quarter-finals.
