Roy Hodgson: Late form will not affect England World Cup squad

England boss Roy Hodgson says nobody will make a late surge into his World Cup squad for Brazil over the last two weeks of the Premier League season.

Hodgson, 66, looks set to stick with the majority of those who helped England qualify for the tournament.

England will name their 23-man party for the World Cup on 13 May.

"I'm not going to make decisions in the last week or two of the season, which is a notoriously bad time to judge talent," Hodgson told Fifa.com.

England's next steps

13 May: 23-man squad, plus seven standby players, named

30 May: England v Peru, friendly, Wembley,

2 June: Deadline for final 23-man squad to be named

4 June: England v Honduras, friendly, Miami

7 June: England v Ecuador, friendly, Miami

"I don't judge players on their last-minute form. Nothing that happens in the last four games, in terms of form, is going to affect me.

"If anyone new on the scene has emerged I'm judging him over several months."

Hodgson said he had a few selection "headaches" after England's 1-0 friendly win over Denmark in March and also indicated he would be prepared to omit big names.

And the England coach admits he is now a lot clearer on the identity of those who will make up the squad.

"Certainly over the last couple of weeks I'm pretty much sure of what I want to do when it comes to the team," Hodgson added.

England begin their World Cup campaign with a Group D match against Italy in Manaus on 14 June, followed by matches against Uruguay and Costa Rica.
